Seminyak is the hip, shopping and dining district of Bali with a great beach and some of the most happening restaurants and beach clubs.

Seminyak is packed with sensational surprises. From delectable dining options to independent boutique stores to laid-back bars and beach clubs, offering something for everyone visiting Bali. We ended up visiting Seminyak on different days for different reasons – with children to hang out on the beach, to go shopping, for sundowners and for a social dinner with friends. Each time, there was something quite different and enchanting about this area and I would recommend everyone visiting Bali to make time to patiently experience the various dimensions of this place.

If you’re looking for the perfect beachfront afternoon, then head down to Potato Head or Ku De Ta – yes, it can be slightly pretentious and busy but if it’s a weekday afternoon then you could be lucky to have tons of space to kick back and soak in the rays. Avoid weekend evenings if you’re with kids, it’s just too hectic and many posey types abound. Step into Peloton Supershop for a vegan meal or visit Merah Putih for an awe-inspiring neo-indo culinary extravaganza prepared by Jasper, the custodian of all things Indonesian when it comes to food. We ended up at Sardine, an enchanting restaurant overlooking a rice paddy and the Espresso Martinis were exceptional.

Seminyak is not made for pedestrians (well, not much of Bali is made for pedestrians) so be careful if you’re thinking about pushing a stroller – ideally this is a place for mums and dads to get away by themselves. The shopping is good, bargain where possible and get the best deals. There are some great local brands and boutiques set up by drifting fashionistas and you’ll be surprised by the amount of choices you’ll have at your fingertips.

It’s hip, hectic and happening.
